Suburbia’s Time in the Sun: How Covid is Changing Consumer Behaviour in Australia

The coming of the coronavirus has encouraged Australians to forsake the glitzy CBDs and return to their homelands, their heartland, the land of their youth, the great Australian suburbia.  But the suburbia that’s being imagined for the 2020s is nothing like the suburbia of The Castle, of Kath & Kim, of Dame Edna Everage.  It’s getting a makeover with more than a little help from the business community.  Bernard Salt AM has a powerful message of change, of optimism and of suburbia’s time in the sun.

Bernard Salt AM is managing director of The Demographics Group.  He is a former partner in a global advisory form.  He is a weekly columnist with The Australian newspaper.  He has published six popular books on demographic trends and observations.  He is one of Australia’s leading social commentators, corporate speakers and business advisors.  He was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2017.  However he is perhaps best known to the broader community for popularising the term “smashed avocado” globally.
